Shingles is a painful, blistering rash.It usually occurs in one part of the body and can last for several weeks. Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox. After you have had chicken pox the virus that caused it stays in your body in nerve cells. Sometimes, after many years, the virus becomes active again and causes shingles.

In your 70s? If you are between 70-79 years young, you may be entitled to a shingles vaccine. Contact reception for more information.

It is estimated that about 1 in 4 people will have at least one episode of shingles during their life.

Most people recover from shingles after a few weeks, but for some, shingles may be painful and can last a long time.
